Known by residents as “The Hill,” Del Cerro
(population 26,000) is actually Spanish for "from the hill.”
It is a wealthy, predominantly Jewish community of single
family homes, most of which have panoramic views of canyons,
mountains or the lights of downtown. Conveniently located
just east of Mission Valley and north of Interstate 8, Del
Cerro is also close to San Diego State University.
Single family homes in Del Cerro
are located on the hills overlooking Mission Trails Regional
Park and range in price from $430,000 to $2,000,000. Many
of them were built in the 1950s and are both larger and
architecturally more interesting than homes of that era
in other parts of San Diego County.
All of the Del Cerro homes are unique
and most have huge backyards for the kids. Condominium prices
in Del Cerro range from $250,000 to $570,000.
Residents are closely knit and Del Cerro neighborhoods
are warm and friendly. Many of the people who live in Del
Cerro are second generation owners. There are two residential
care facilities for the elderly in Del Cerro. As with much
of the rest of San Diego, Del Cerro is being renovated.
