Looking for a rural
setting in a prime location with easy access to highways
and downtown? Consider
Golden Hills, a residential area crisscrossed by
canyons that are home to coyotes, skunks, birds, and
foxes just south and east of Balboa Park.
Residential
Golden Hills real estate includes everything from
modern condominiums to craftsman homes, and quaint
bungalows built between 1920 – 1940. Its once stately
Victorian mansions are some of the most beautiful homes
in San Diego. These historic homes are rapidly being
rejuvenated, but some are still quite reasonably priced.
Many have excellent downtown and canyon views. A fair
percentage of
homes in Golden Hills have been restored as
professional buildings to retain the community’s
distinctive character.
A representative sampling of
homes for sale
in Golden Hills includes: a one bed/one bath 364
square foot condominium for $200,000; an eight bed/six
bath 1925 Victorian with tin ceilings and crown molding
for $1,600,000.
Golden Hills is a diverse community with a large
Latino population. Residents enjoy ethnic markets and
restaurants and the exotic bunya bunya trees from New
Zealand planted more than a century ago. From 1889 to
1902 Golden Hill Park was the first section of Balboa
Park to be landscaped. It included a fountain, golf
course, tennis courts and swings.
The Golden Hills playground is one of the oldest
in the city, dedicated in July of 1914. The Golden
Hills Recreation Center was the first publicly owned
recreation facility in San Diego. The Greater Golden
Hills Planning Committee works to improve the
quality of life in the greater Golden Hill community.
