Named for a Greek Island,
Leucadia (population 12,000,
average age 36) means “Paradise Island” or “Shelter.”
Residents take pride in their remote, seaside community
and tend to resist change. Consequently, having resisted
all temptation to erect ocean front high rises,
Leucadia is a quaint, laid back beach town popular
with surfers, artists, and others who want to live a
casual lifestyle in a small town close to urban
amenities. The decidedly pre-World War II downtown
shopping district is over 100 years old and includes
surf shops, sidewalk cafes, antique shops, galleries and
boutiques.
Single family detached
homes in
Leucadia range in price from $700,000 for a two
bedroom, two bathroom, 1,200 square foot home build in
1960, to $6,500,000 for a four bedroom, four bathroom,
5,000 square foot home built in 1980.
Leucadia condos
range in price from $599,000 for a two bedroom, two
bathroom, 1,280 square foot home built in 1980 to
$715,000 for a two bedroom, three bathroom, 1850 square
foot home built in 1980.
The 5,000 + Leucadia Homes
are an eclectic mix of older homes, newer custom homes,
condominiums, townhouses and waterfront estates. Most
Leucadia real
estate is comprised of single-family homes on large
lots with lush gardens although there are smaller
bungalows and a few condominiums. Many of the more
expensive Leucadia Homes
flank Neptune Avenue, which parallels the beach.
Tree-lined streets tend to be named for Greek gods and
very few have sidewalks.
