Looking for affordable housing
in a hometown atmosphere just minutes away from downtown? Consider
National City, population 55,000,
the second oldest city in San Diego County.
Single family detached
homes in National City
are priced in the $380,000 - $750,000 range.
National City condos
sell for $290,000 – $476,000.
Located south of the City of San Diego and 10 miles north of
the Mexican border, National City thrives on its climate
(once advertised on the East Coast as having the best climate
on earth), its proximity to the Port of San Diego and its position
as a gateway to Mexico. Years ago, residents flocked to National
City to avoid cold winters. They built miles of tree-shaded
streets and Victorian homes, many of which remain.
Four National City buildings are listed on the National
Register of Historic Places. Residents are proud of Granger
Music Hall, Brick Row on Heritage Square, St. Matthews Episcopal
Church and the Santa Fe Rail Depot, all of which have been restored
to their former glory.
After a period of decline, National City is now experiencing
solid growth and is attracting new ventures and projects including
the Mile of Cars, home to 22 new car dealers.
Southwestern College and San Diego State University (SDSU) are
building an Education Village in the original downtown area
of National City, which is now under redevelopment. The
city is also landscaping National City Boulevard and planting
trees and flowers from one end of the city to the other.
