There are very few single family detached homes in Mission Valley. Since 1996, nearly 2,000 Mission Valley condos have been built. Mission Valley is experiencing phenomenal growth. New gated condo complexes are springing up complete with workout facilities, swimming pools and shuttle service. Since 2000, the population has swelled 41.8 percent to almost 18,000. By 2030, local officials predict Mission Valley will be home to some 28,000 San Diegan’s.
Because this growth was somewhat unanticipated, city services are taking a little while to catch up. Mission Valley residents are demanding their own school, parks and fire department. Still, there are signs that the city is waking up; the newest branch of the San Diego Public Library system is in Mission Valley with high-speed internet access and other excellent facilities.
