The casino is owned and operated by the Viejas Band of Kumeyaay, which has over 250 Native Americans living on the 1,600-acre reservation in the Viejas Valley, east of Alpine. The tribe has lived here for over 10,000 years.

The Chamber of Commerce hosts a variety of activities including I Love a Clean Alpine, Essay Contests, and Wild West Casino nights. Several of Alpines restaurants are quite good including The Alpine Inn.
