Coronado Homes & Real Estate
Just across the bridge from downtown San Diego is an island worlds apart known as Coronado.
The 7.4 square mile tree-lined island is home to some of the most distinctive real estate in San Diego County. While Coronado may mean “Crowned One” in Spanish, the island residents are friendly, energetic and outgoing.
The pristine beaches and shorelines laden with trees that sway gently in the ever present ocean breeze offer a glimpse into what many think heaven should be. Homes in Coronado are a unique mixture of size, design and architecture that blend seamlessly and give the island a character of its own. Victorian homes, luxury condos, cottages, mansions and California bungalows merge in a cohesive eye appealing atmosphere like no other community in southern California.
The “Island” of Coronado is connected to San Diego by the San Diego-Coronado Bridge and to Imperial Beach by a state highway. There is also a ferry that runs back and forth from downtown San Diego.
The quaint, tree-lined haven is an exclusive neighborhood of luxury Victorians and bungalows and home to 29,000 residents. Coronado Cays is an exclusive, gated community south of the village. It’s built around the Coronado Cays Yacht Club.
Most homeowners at Coronado Cays have private boat slips. Coronado is also home port to two aircraft carriers and an amphibious base where the Navy’s elite SEALS are trained.
Coronado is an excellent place to raise a family.
The school system in Coronado is fabulous, one of the best in the state. It includes the Coronado School of the Arts (COSA,), a campus within a campus at Coronado High school, and the crime rate is one of the lowest in San Diego County.
The weather is unique, because Coronado is surrounded by water. It’s warmer in winter and cooler in summer than the rest of San Diego County, which is often cited as having the second best climate in the world after the Canary Islands.
Since the available space has already been well developed, and because demand for homes in this prestigious paradise is always high, Coronado real estate is an excellent investment. Downtown Coronado boasts more than 200 unique shops and boutiques as well as almost 100 exquisite restaurants and the legendary Hotel del Coronado.
The sparkling seaside town has 28 miles of spectacular, pristine white beaches, 18 public parks, an 18-hole golf course, dedicated bicycle paths and tennis courts.
There is an excellent community theater in addition to the Lambs Players Theater one of the finest repertory companies in the world. The Travel Channel recently ranked Coronado the second best overall beach in the country and the number one family beach.
Spreckel’s Park, in the center of town, offers year-round art shows and summertime Sunday concerts.
The atmosphere in Coronado is definitely laid back yet festive with an old world elegance, and the views are spectacular.
