The smallest town in coastal North County, Del Mar comprises two square miles of coastal property inhabited by less than 5,000 citizens, many of them reclusive, who are extremely protective of their environment and their way of life, which includes: tennis, horseback riding, swimming, surfing, hiking, golfing at nearby championship golf courses, hot-air ballooning and relaxing.  Downtown is only a few blocks long with casual outdoor cafes, fine restaurants, and specialty boutiques.

Perhaps the town’s biggest attraction is the sun, sand and surf.  There are three beaches in Del Mar, Dog Beach on the north, Torrey Pines State Beach to the south and Del Mar Beach in the middle. There is always somewhere to be and dozens of activities to entertain the most avid sun worshipers in Del Mar.

On Saturday afternoons there’s a farmers’ market and most days the sky is decorated with spectacularly colorful hot air balloons.  The Del Mar Foundation sponsors twilight concerts as well as lectures, musical programs and bingo.
